It feels like my blog is turning into an anonymous support group for HP EVA customers, but yet another “so this gets into Google” (first, second) post.

vSphere 4.1u3 on a brand new R720?
Kind of hard to believe it, but the ESX 4 cluster mentioned back in 2010 has essentially been the same since it was put in, except for the addition of a third, slightly newer node. And the Test/Dev cluster has also been stagnant since late 2008. But, the times they are a changing.

New look
After 9+ years, I figured it was time to change the look.
The current header image is part of a shot I took at Mammoth Cave last fall. I’ll probably add some other header images, maybe with some more techie content eventually.
Reinstalling HP Remote Support Standard v5.70 after 12/29/2012
Another “so this gets into google” post about HP Remote Support, like the last one.
The installer for HP RSS v5.70 (and I assume previous versions) has an included SSL certificate that expires on 12/29/2012, so when it tries to connect to the HP Support Center towards the end of the install, it fails.

DellWorld 2012 – Day 2
(My ears are still ringing from the awesome Camp Freddy performance last night, this post may be a little confusing.)
The morning started with a nice buffett style breakfast, laid out a little better than I’ve seen at other conferences, on par with Microsoft TechEd. DellWorld 2012
So, I’m going to Austin, TX this week for DellWorld 2012, courtesy of Dell and the wonderful folks at DellTechCenter.com. Apparently I’ve been helpful and vocal enough about Dell servers, desktops and support on Twitter and other places that they are calling me an “influencer”.
As part of that, I’m required to state that Dell flew me in to Austin for #DellWorld 2012. And paid for my hotel. And my food. So, the things that I mention here over the next few days have been influenced by this, though I’ll try really hard to be honest and clear about everything I see.

Writing again.
I’m making a conscious effort to start writing here again. I feel kind of like Twitter has destroyed my ability to write anything longer than 140 characters.

Grandpa Marv
All the 5 AM breakfasts, all the Iroquois County Fair demo derbies we went to, all the Old Settlers tractor pulls I drug you to, all the early mornings when I was detasseling. All the memories I have are good, you were always there, with a smile, never really angry with anyone. Here’s to hoping there’s a cold PBR, a dirt floor in a machine shed and a rusty stool for you to sit on, you’ll be happy forever back with Grandma Max.
Rest in Peace, you will be missed.
