I have to post this while I can, Sebastien Bourdais has put Scuderia Toro Rosso ahead of their engine supplier Ferrari in the Formula One Constructor standings.
I assume things will change dramatically at the Malaysian Grand Prix, Australia is always a mess.
I went to the Virginia Theatre last night to see There Will Be Blood. In general, I’d highly recommend it, but it is not for children or the faint of heart. As usual, Daniel Day-Lewis gets so far into the character that you think this is some sort of biopic about him. And, if you don’t like grating, mechanical soundtracks, be prepared to cringe repeatedly.
Next I need to see No Country for Old Men.
So, the University is now releasing details on the outcome of the competitive bidding process for the endowment farms. Hopefully, someone else will publish the details somewhere and I won’t have to put in my own FOIA request to read the bids.
These comics really aren’t worth writing about, they are probably old, but several of them made me laugh as we’re trapped in the middle of a Cisco deployment.

Saturday was a day trip up to Hopland, CA to visit the Real Goods store, by way of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. I wasn’t all that interested in the destination, but the drive sure was nice. (Mental note: Don’t ever buy a Pontiac Grand Prix/G6. They are fine rental cars, but they are truly typical GM.) The return trip was by way of the Oakland side of the Bay, so it was more California interstate confusion than fun drive.
Sunday was a nice day trip up Skyline Drive to Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Area and some hiking. At the one rest stop we drove through on Skyline Dr, there were lots of people standing around admiring a small, black car. Walking over and talking to the owner, it was an RX7 body with a Corvette engine and a transmission out of a Viper…Someone with too much money.
Another week of class started today, hopefully we’ll make it to a few more attractions evenings this week.
In California there are things that end up on ballots called “propositions”. In 2008, there are several appearing on the February 5th primary ballot, including Proposition 93 and Props 94, 95, 96, and 97.
The first proposition is a scheme to alter the strict legislator term limits imposed in 1990 and the second group is a way to change the state Indian gaming agreements to (supposedly) help the impending state budget crisis by adding thousands of slot machines and collecting more revenue from those new slots.
The reason I’m writing about them is because the TV ads for each side of each set of propositions seem to be silly and every TV station is running each ad for each side at every commercial break. Fairness and equal time, I guess, but man do I want my DVR.
I’m off to San Jose/Sunnyvale, CA for 2 weeks of training on Cisco MeetingPlace with ANI Training. As you can tell above, Robin wanted to go with me, but I don’t think he’d do too well in checked baggage.
As mentioned in a previous post, I’ve got a DishNetwork 510 DVR. Sometime last night, new software was downloaded to it that brought a whole slew of new features, including DishNetwork’s long promised version of Tivo’s “SeasonPass“, entertainingly enough called “DishPass”.
(Is it any wonder EchoStar lost the legal/patent battle with Tivo?)
Also in the new features is generalized “Name Based Recording”, though I’m not sure how that differs from DishPass just yet.
I haven’t had anything to record since the update, but here’s hoping that nothing goes horribly wrong.
And, I’m fairly certain I recommended the Silblades to CK, since I had them on my 2001 Dakota in mid-2001 and still have them on the 97 Accord.
Robin went out and played in the snow today.
And, he seems to be quite a bit happier in the snow this winter, big difference from last January.
