First and second doctor visits

Robin had his first doctor visit yesterday, 6 lbs 6 3/4 oz, 19 1/2″ long. That was still weight loss, so we had to go back for a check today. He’s gained 1/4 oz, so no more visits until the 1 month checkup, The breastfeeding clinic at Carle will do walk-in weight checks, so if we are worried we may visit on Monday.

He seems to like the carseat once he’s fallen asleep.

The Baby Owner’s Manual

My wife got me The Baby Owner’s Manual for a Christmas present. I have to agree with the commenters on Parent Hacks that it is an excellent book for geek parent to be. With chapter titles like “Crying: Troubleshooting the Baby’s Audio Cues” and “Feeding: Understanding the Baby’s Power Supply”, how can a book not be worth reading?
I will admit that it seems to have the same effect as most parenting classes: reinforcement of existing common sense. But there are some nuggets of knowledge that you might not find in other places. Also, the index uses terms that most geeks can relate to.

Bought a new car

Since somebody wants to see a picture of our new 2006 Honda Accord EX Sedan:

It’s been too cold out the last two days to take a decent outdoor shot, or to wash it, so there it is, in all it’s salty, grimy silverness. And, yes, before you ask, the Dakota is gone, it got traded in.

New sonos

We had another doctor visit yesterday, so we’ve got more pictures. This is normally the first appointment where they do a sonogram, so the earlier ones were a bonus. For some reason, the little one wouldn’t hold still or roll over, frustrating the sonographer to no end.
“The Alien look”, as the sonographer called it, with a nice view of the spine:

Yep, that’s a foot. The little one just kept kicking and punching through the whole procedure.

Sonograms

Since I think we’ve told just about everyone in person (sorry if I missed you and this is how you find out), the wife and I are expecting our first child in February. Many people at the wife’s work think she’s having a kitten and I can see that in the sonos. For some reason, she doesn’t find that funny…
