Harbor Tour

So, I bolted on 2 sessions and took a harbor tour. It was pretty cool, lots of US Navy vessels and planes. The narration was informative, and the boat was no where near full. I’d definitly reccommend Hornblower Tours to anyone at TechEd. They are up Harbor Drive just past the USS Nimitz USS Midway, too bad the Midway isn’t open yet it is going to be a pretty nifty museum. Now on to learning about spam control with Exchange 2003 and the Intelligent Message Filter.

Update:Thanks to Rob Caron for pointing out that I got the ship names confused. I shouldn’t trust my memory for anything anymore.

Cornucopia

Friday night Alisha and I went to see Van Helsing at the Lorraine. The sound was great, the picture was great, the content stunk. If you were going in with low expectations, you were not disappointed. We are hoping to go see Troy next weekend, if they get it.

Saturday I spent getting the main server at the school district moved over to new hardware and a more recent OS. My planning for this move was a little lax, so it was kind of hairy at times, but it all seems to be working now.

Sunday being Mothers Day, I spent some of it with my mother and grandmother, having a nice brunch and seeing my aunts and and cousins. Then I came home and mowed the yard, which really needed it.

And, a random link about Wankel rotary engines.

rotate tractor tires?

So, I did a bunch of odds and ends for family members today:

  • Move a bunch of HEAVY antique sewing machines
  • Hook up grandpa’s computer
  • Fix DirectTV receiver
  • Reinstall seats in grandparents minivan
  • Vacuum out my truck
  • Rotate the front tires on the JD 4400

Now, I’m beat. Time to go play a game of poker, drive home and sleep in to regain the hour of sleep lost to the silly time change.

perl code

I’m working on a webform to compare the tax impacts of various levels of 403(b) deductions. And I can tell its been some time since I wrote any perl or even any web forms. But, I’m using some cool data structures:

my %monthly = (
        single  => [ 26767, 12392, 5708, 2567,  808, 221, 0 ],
        married => [ 27175, 15463, 9838, 5396, 1858, 667, 0 ],
        );

Hopefully I’ll get this figured out in the next couple nights.

Give Blood!

Alisha met all the ‘important people’ at Carle today for her new job, and I had to go pick her up when she got done. We decided to stop in and see my grandmother, who has been in and out of Carle and Hoopeston hospitals since just after Thanksgiving. (She’s got a CDIF infection that she just can’t shake.) She looks much better than the last time I saw her a couple weeks ago.

And then we gave blood. Have you recently? I highly recommend it.

Cold

It was -9 F when I got up this morning. That’s what a solid layer of snow cover and artic air will do.

The beard is nice insulation in this weather, but it’s a really odd feeling when it starts to freeze together.

And, who else thinks the ‘certain capture’ of Osama Bin Laden is going to be turned into election year propaganda?
