Another Festival over

The 62nd National Sweetcorn Festival is over. I think we shucked nearly 24 tons of corn and served nearly all of it. Another ton or so was leftover on Sunday and good bit of it was sold for $2 per dozen.

Adding to the calorie count: 1 small order of rib tips from Kags Barbeque, 1 taco in a bag, at least 6 ears of corn, 1 pulled pork bbbq sandwich, 1 Conservation Club fish sandwich, several more lemon shakeups and several more beers….

And, I made page two of tomorrows Just the Facts.

Sweetcorn Festival, Saturday

Went to the parade this morning, watched all the emergency vehicles drive by. A few bands, lots of floats.
Spent most of the rest of the afternoon standing at the husker, turning ears of corn the right way. We ran out of corn at 4:30pm and served the last of the cooked corn just before 5 pm.

The calorie count so far: 1 deep fried snickers bar, 1 deep fried giant pork tenderloin, 1 large lemon shakeup and a couple of beers….

WordPress upgrade

WP 1.5.2 was released earlier today, I guess I’m on the bleeding edge or something. If you note at the bottom of the right hand sidebar there’s now a “spam consumed:” line, I’ve upgraded from Spam Karma 1 to SK2 and SK2 Stats.

Campus at 6:30 am

You know, there’s nothing quite like campus at 6:30 am during the short break between Summer Session II and Fall. There’s hardly anybody here, it’s all quiet, few cars around and you can actually ride around on a bicycle without risking your life.

Bodyworlds

Saturday my parents, the wife and I went up to the Museum of Science and Industry to see Bodyworlds. It was definitely worth the drive and the small amount of standing in line for Bodyworlds. The Museum, on the other hand, has gotten a little stagnant it seems. Many of the exhibits haven’t really changed in 10+ years (the oversize heart, the train layout, etc) and the ones that have didn’t seem to interest us much. I’m sure the U-505 is nicer now that it’s inside, but how much could have changed?

And, if you go, I’d recommend buying your tickets in advance online. Just like the website says, no standing in line (to get into the museum), no waiting, just park, ride up the escalator, get your ticket scanned and off you go. Well worth the small convience charge.
