SURBL and spamcopuri

Trying to get Spam URI Realtime Blocklist (SURBL) working with SpamAssassin 2.63 on RedHat Enterprise Linux 3 is a bit of a challenge. The plugin to make it work is spamcopuri which requires perl-URI-1.28 (or greater?). RHEL3 comes with perl-URI-1.21, we need to find a more recent RPM to rebuild. Fedora seems to be a pretty good starting point and they have 1.30 in the latest test release. After rebuilding that SRPM (with rpmbuild –rebuild), the build seems to go fine. More testing to come.

Update: Install is just as easy as it claims, copy the config file into the same directory as local.cf and restart spamd. And it starts tagging spam….

Cornucopia

Friday night Alisha and I went to see Van Helsing at the Lorraine. The sound was great, the picture was great, the content stunk. If you were going in with low expectations, you were not disappointed. We are hoping to go see Troy next weekend, if they get it.

Saturday I spent getting the main server at the school district moved over to new hardware and a more recent OS. My planning for this move was a little lax, so it was kind of hairy at times, but it all seems to be working now.

Sunday being Mothers Day, I spent some of it with my mother and grandmother, having a nice brunch and seeing my aunts and and cousins. Then I came home and mowed the yard, which really needed it.

And, a random link about Wankel rotary engines.

sudo is so cool

sudo allows non-superusers to do superuser things without knowing the superuser password.

betka@somehost betka $ sudo /etc/init.d/dhcp restart
Password:
 * Stopping dhcpd...                             [ ok ]
 * Starting dhcpd...                             [ ok ]

sasser

Sasser has made it to campus. This is just what we need during the last week of classes. Hard to believe this many people are missing a patch released almost a month ago. Microsoft has an advisory on sasser.

Update (5/03/04): I’m just as much a loser as everyone else. I had 16 machines (out of about 1000) that were unpatched. Thirty lashes with a wet noodle for me.
