Well, I’ve rolled another box from RedHat to Gentoo: a squid proxy box that handles kiosk machines in Housing.
With the introduction of Banner and the ending of paper paystubs for most employees, Housing is going to begin offering more kiosks for employee use, and that means our existing proxy server wasn’t going to cut it anymore, at least during peak periods.
The existing proxy server was a Dell 1550 (1U) with only 1x 9GB RAID1 drive, so not much caching space available. The new server is a Dell 2550 with 4x 36GB drives in a RAID10 setup, so much more space.
